History
 
The department was established in 1969 as Section of Japanese Language, Department of Oriental Languages and Literatures. The title was officially changed to Department of Japanese Language and Literature in 1984. We multiplied the original one class to two classes.  The MA program was launched in 1993.  Now there are more than 40 teachers, including 17 fulltime teachers. All of our faculty members are devoted to teaching and research.
